摘要

This grant facilitated the visits of Indian scientists to laboratories in the U.S.. The purpose of this program was to provide a cost- effective mechanism for bringing scientists over from India for extended visits to various labs around the United States. The program was started at the request of Dr. Bernard J. Zahuranec, a ONR program officer at the time. The program covered the travel and living expenses of each visitor. As directed by Dr. Zahuranec, the University of Delaware followed federal government reimbursement procedures. The only role of the University was to reimburse the visitors with, in the words of Dr. Zahuranec, a 'minimum of difficulty or paperwork'. The program brought in 23 visitors from India. These visitors went to the following locations: Montana State University, University of Hawaii, University of Miami, and the Office of Naval Research. The visitors learned various techniques mostly in marine molecular biology and were exposed to ONR-supported research in biofouling, biocorrosion and estuarine processes.
