摘要

The HD hydrolysis/biodegradation process has been incorporated into the design of the Aberdeen Proving Ground chemical demilitarization plant. As operated to date, the process uses tap water for the hydrolysis and subsequent dilution prior to biodegradation. It may be possible to reduce the cost and increase the efficiency of the process by using treated wastewater as the diluent, since this water would be expected to contain some of the inorganic nutrients that are currently added to the bioreactor feed. In order to test this, three bioreactors were operated for several hydraulic residence times. One reactor was augmented with both phosphorus and trace metals; one reactor was augmented with phosphorus only, and a third reactor was augmented with neither phosphorus nor trace metals. Results showed that while phosphorus augmentation was necessary, trace metal augmentation was not. In comparison to previous reactors run with tap water as diluent, all three of the reactors in the current study achieved an increased efficiency of organic carbon removal and a decreased effluent aquatic toxicity, suggesting the use of the treated wastewater should be beneficial to the process regardless of cost savings.
