This research project is a study of the implications of modern chaos theory onmilitary management and leadership for the next century. The critical elements of chaos theory are presented in a non-mathematical treatment to reach the broadest audience. The theory is then applied to large organizations to illustrate the five major types of organizational behaviors and the three general chaotic behavior patterns. Implications for management and leadership of each type are discussed and the complex organizational pattern is identified as the most viable in a turbulent socioeconomic climate. Six recommendations for management emphasis are made in high impact areas for potential implementation by military leaders today.
