Because little is known about the subject, the purpose of the study is todescribe perioperative nurse preparedness to identify and manage MH. A description of nurse preparedness may serve to improve clinical practice and reduce the risks associated with MH for surgical patients. The specific aims of this study are as follows: (1) to describe the perioperative nurses' training, level of knowledge, and perceived educational needs regarding the identification and management of MH (nurse preparedness). (2) to describe the availability of MH supplies, cart, medications and institutional protocol necessary to maximize patient outcomes during MH crises (institutional preparedness).
