摘要

The main objective of this research was to illustrate the control that discrete geological structures have on groundwater flow, and the usefulness of geometrical simulation models in approximating these internal structures. A new computer code, the Braided Channel Simulator (BCS-3D) was developed that: (1) produces realistic braided channel topology and topography using a random-walk approach in conjunction with information on channel hydraulic geometry; (2) generates estimates of the three-dimensional framework of sedimentary units defined by erosional bounding surfaces in braided alluvial deposits; and (3) uses a post-processor to produce multiple realizations of geologically-realistic, heterogeneous, hydraulic conductivity fields. Simulation of groundwater flow through BCS-3D-generated conductivity fields showed that discrete structures, when accentuated by a relatively minor contrast in hydraulic conductivity, controlled advective transport.
