The authors have characterized the disaccharide repeating unit of the backbone of rhamnogalacturonan I (RG I). In the intact cell wall the disaccharide is polymerized by alpha 1-4 linkages from the rhamnose to a galacturonic acid. (ERA citation 13:025100)
