Over 900 participants gathered in Sydney for the Bicentenary Congress of Physics and approximately 100 participants attended the Biophysics Meeting. The Congress covered all aspects of physics with parallel sessions in nuclear physics, particle physics, medical physics, solid state physics, acoustics, optics, astrophysics and gaseous electronics. The continuing collaborative research efforts involve the neutron diffraction studies of cyclosporin and plastocyanin, as well as membrane studies with ubiquinone and gramicidin A. A seminar on neutron scattering was given in the Chemistry Department at the Australian National University which is interested in extending its scientific program to include protein crystallography and expand its small angle program.
