摘要

Researchers in both the US and the USSR expect further reduction in their economy's energy use per output. An important factor underlying this trend is the shift in the structure of economic production away from energy-intensive sectors. This paper focuses on studies conducted in both countries to measure the relative importance of shifts within the economy on energy demand. A significant achievement in this collaboration is the use of the same methodology for analyzing this issue. This means that differences in the results between countries will be reflecting primarily differences in energy use trends rather than differences in methodology.
