The training guide for professionals and paraprofessionals who will operate caregiver support and education groups outlines a formal curriculum for caregiver support groups that met 2 hours each week for 8 weeks. The group sessions took place in Tucson, Arizona under the auspices of the Arizona Long-Term Care Gerontology Center at the University of Arizona. The curriculum has three dimensions: (1) professionally guided group discussion; (2) caregiving instruction; and (3) training in stress management. Attention is focused on the causes, symptoms and consequences of caregiver stress. Personal care skills for caregiving are explored, and emphasis is on general nutrition, safety and preventative health care measures.
