摘要

Cuttings of the sweet potato cultivar Xu-18 were exposed to gamma rays in 1983. This cultivar is susceptible to ''sweet potato black rot'' caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata E11. et Halst. and leading to serious post-harvest losses of tubers. The irradiated material was vegetatively propagated to M/sub 1/V/sub 3/. Mutant selection was undertaken on single plants in M/sub 1/V/sub 2/ and on clonal progenies in M/sub 1/V/sub 3/. Two promising clonal lines namely ''12-11-8'' and ''09-56'', possessing much better resistance to black rot than the original cultivar ''Xu-18'' were identified in 1985 and 1986. Their yield is comparable to the original cultivar. The mutant clones are now to be tested in different locations, where the disease is endemic. If the results of these tests are positive, the clones will be released as improved cultivars to the farmers. The experiment has been very successful and results of practical significance were obtained within the short period of only 4 years. 4 refs, 1 fig, 3 tabs. (Atomindex citation 19:035660)
