We study the prototype of the gap road to chaos, namely X/sub t+1/= 1- epsilon/sub i/ - a)X/sub t/)/sup z//sub i/ (i=1,2 respectively correspond to x greater than or equal to 0 and x<0; epsilon /sub 1/ not = epsilon /sub 2/). Intriguing properties are observed concerning the (a, epsilon /sub 1/, epsilon/sub 2/)- evolution of the attractors and the Liapunov and uncertainty exponents; also, multifractality is exhibited at the first entrance to chaos.
