摘要

The same adverse biological effects previously observed within colonies with total-hive E-field exposure under a 765-kV transmission line can be reproduced with entrance-only exposure of worker bees in elongated hive entrances (=porches). E field and shock can be separated and precisely defined within porches, eliminating confounding and dosimetric vagaries which occur when entire hives are exposed to E field.nIn 1983, moisture sensors and control circuits limited E-field exposure to only those times when nonconductive porches were free of moisture and concomitant shock hazard. Exposure of bees to E fields up to 100 kV/m for ca. 660 h under dry conditions did not affect colony behavior.nIn 1984, we confirmed that bee exposure to E fields, including 100 kV/m, under the same conditions causes no detectable effect on colony behavior.
