摘要

This paper presents an experimental study of micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF). MEUF is used to remove n-alcohols, hexanol, heptanol, and octanol, from an aqueous stream. The surfactant used was cetypyridinium chloride. Results show that MEUF is a viable separation technique for the removal of alcohols. Rejections as high as +98% for the alcohols and +99% for the surfactant were observed. Rejection of alcohol was found to increase with increasing chain length. The effects of concentration polarization were present in the study, but concentration polarization was found to improve the rejections. In at least one case, the alcohol in the MEUF permeate was found to deviate from that expected from equilibrium studies. 15 refs., 16 figs., 4 tabs. (ERA citation 11:011672)
