A measurement of the angular correlation of gamma -rays emitted in the capture of thermal neutrons in exp 23 Na has been used to determine the multipole mixing ratio delta for seventeen transitions in exp 24 Na, of which seven are primary transitions. For these primary transitions also the capture state spin admixture alpha has been derived. The neutron capture reaction proceeds predominantly through the J/sup pi / = 1 exp + channel, as expected from previous cross-section measurements. A measurement of the circular polarization of gamma -rays resulting from the capture of polarized thermal neutrons in exp 138 Ba, exp 140 Ce, and exp 142 Ce has yielded spin assignments for p-states in the final nuclei. Excitation energies and reaction Q-values have been obtained from the analysis of singles spectra taken with unpolarized neutrons. (ERA citation 08:013323)
