We prove that under some conditions the first order hyperbolic system and its associated mixed initial boundary conditions considered, for example, in Kreiss (Math. Comp. 22, 703-704 (1968)) and Kreiss and Gustafsson (Math. Comp. 26, 649-686 (1972)), can be transformed into a symmetric positive system of P.D.E.'s with admissible boundary conditions of Friedrich's type (Comm. Pure Appl. Math 11, 333-418.
