A simple mathematical model has been proposed which accounts for the fallout radioisotopes migration in the soil, incorporating the run-off phenomena and the possibility of a ploughing operation in the past time. The model has been applied for a particular radioisotope (Cs-137) to a soil, near the Casaccia Nuclear Research Center, which was supposed undisturbed. The fitting of the model to the experimental data showed that a deep ploughing operation was indeed affected about in 1960. Such as hypothesis has been later confirmed by the result of a local investigation. Furthermore it has been observed that Cs-137 from fallout migrates in this kind of soil according with a value of 2 cm exp 2 /y for the equivalent coefficient of diffusion. (ERA citation 07:048042)
