This report discusses two general types of coordinate systems, analogous to rectangular and cylindrical systems. Complicated cross-sectional rod-bundle geometries, such as hexagonal fuel assemblies used in the LMFBR, can be transformed into either rectangular or cylindrical coordinates with uniform mesh. An option can be provided such that all internal fuel rods can be collapsed into slits or slabs in the transformed plane. As a result of this option, the appropriate boundary conditions of the internal rods can readily be specified. Thus, all the empirical mixing co-efficients and crossflow resistances normally associated with a rod-bundle thermal-hydraulic analysis can be eliminated, and the computational stability and accuracy can be enhanced.
