摘要

The primary objectives of the Laboratory are:n-To seek new knowledge in the nuclear sciences and related fields, with emphasis on programs that require such large-scale research tools as nuclear reactors, particle accelerators, and special labo¬ratories, which are beyond the scope of most or all individual educational institutions.n-To encourage use of its facilities by scientists of university, industrial, and other laboratories.n-To assist the Energy Research and Develop¬ment Administration (ERDA) in the solution of specific problems that utilize the Laboratory's unique facilities or the special talents of its staff.n-To serve as an important auxiliary in the train¬ing of scientists and engineers and otherwise to assist in the dissemination of scientific and tech¬nical knowledge.
