If energy-supply reductions or rationing of specific fossil-fuel categories become a reality, then the economic feasibility of digestion is enhanced. It is critical to remember that the model is linear and does not permit substitution between major energy categories;for example, substituting fuel oil for gas heat.nThe objective function was respecified with energy minimization as the goal, subject to a minimum required income. The solutions provide interest¬ing insights into energy self-sufficiency. The real world (at least in the West) does not provide incentives for such an approach, even though it is advocated by some scientists;hence, the results are not particularly useful in formulating future energy policy.
