The various air samplers in use at Rocky Plata plant in 1975 were not designed to sample these relatively large light organic particles which night therefore have escaped detection, that a subsidiary air sampling program was set up using standard aero-biological trapping techniques plus filter samples from the regular Rocky Flats air samplersnThe test for association between pollen and small radioactive particles involved the irradiation of a sampling slide containing pollen. A polycarbonate film capable of registering fission tracks was in contact with the sample during irradiation, and chemical etching of the film revealed radionuclide fission tracks.
