We entered this year with an initial version of the modeling system running under an initial interactive graphics monitor. During the year, we have been obtaining and generating typical networks in order to test this version. As a result of the first experience with the system, we have been correcting, improving, and expanding both the modeling system, support software and support hardware. In parallel with this effort, we have been studying and implementing a mini-version on a mini-computer (the PDP-11 in the Department of General Engineering), investigating an interface to a 3-D display (the Stereomatrix project in the Hardware Research Group), and developing the theory of numerical methods for ordinary differential equations—both to understand and Justify some of the techniques already being used, and to find solution of methods for a difficult problem.
