The present state of knowledge on sodium potassium niobate (SPN) preparation and fabrication is reviewed. Preparation of stoichiometric material has proven a major difficulty;all the methods used yield material which tends to be deficient in either or both of the alkali metals. Fabrication to high densities presents no problems with the improved air-hot pressing apparatus now in use in the Chemical Technology Division, AWRE. The electrical performance of the material has proven somewhat disappointing.
