This report comprises two parts. The first part seeks to canvass, by general categories, ground-water situations within the United States in which nuclear detonation appears potentially advantageous as a tool for water management, and to identify examples that might warrant intensive study of feasibility scope. The canvass neither claims nor demonstrates overall feasibility for any particular detonation.nNuclear detonation would be no more than an alternative to conventional engineering means for managing water.
