Three phenomena are considered as sources of neutrons. These are:nRadionuclide delayed neutron emissionnNitrogen-17 and fission product delayed neutron precursors are considered and several systems for their use in MTR are proposed.nPhoto-neutron reactionsnRadionuclide gamma ray bombardment of beryllium and deuterium is reviewed. Several reactions not previously considered in the litera¬ture are included.nNeutron-capture gamma rays are considered as gamma ray sources. Several (n, γ) and (γ, n) targets are considered. Systems for their use in MTR are proposed.nAlpha-neutron reactionsnReactions using alpha particles emitted from radionuclides are considered as sources. Some usable radionuclide alpha particle sources are listed, nuclides with usable reaction thresholds are tabulated, and a bibliography of alpha-neutron sources is included.
