摘要

The fire detection system proposed for the canyons of the Savannah River Plant is that manufactured by the Fireye Corporation of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The purpose of the work contained herein was to determine the effect of gamma radiation on the fire-sensitive cells (lead sulfide coated glass). The test data indicates that gamma radiation drastically reduces the sensitivity of the detector cells* Hence, the Fireye Detection system is not dependable when exposed to gamma radiation fields at total exposure exceeding 10 roentgen units.
