The overall objective of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility of the Molten Salt Coal Gasification (MSCG) process for use in the generation of electric power while controlling pollution. A pilot plant is being designed and built for converting five tons of coal per hour to a non-polluting low-Btu fuel gas,regenerating sodium carbonate for recycle to the gasifier,and recovering elemental sulfur. The plant will be operated to obtain data for evaluating the process and designing full-scale plants. It will be located on the premises of the Norwalk Harbor Generating Station of the Connecticut Light and Power Company.
