The sensitivity of surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors has been enhanced by211u001eincreasing the active surface area of these devices, Electrodepositions of Ni, 211u001ePd, and Pt in a mass-transport-limited mode with trace foreign metals yield 211u001ehighly dendritic crystal structures of uniform macroscopic thickness. The 211u001econcentration of metal ions, supporting electrolyte, agitation, and additives 211u001egreatly impact the crystal morphology of the deposit. This methodology can be 211u001eused simply and economically to provide high-area films in selective regions.
