摘要

The authors have investigated the emission spectra of a carbon plume generated211u001efrom graphite by a visible pulsed laser for diamond-like coatings (DLC). The 211u001elaser utilized was a 300-watt class copper vapor laser with a pulse duration of 211u001eapproximately 40 ns. To better understand the laser-target interaction, they have 211u001evisualized plume dynamics near the graphite ejection during pulsed laser 211u001edeposition (PLD). The ejection of material started at about 500 ns after the 211u001eonset of laser pulse and lasted for about 10 micros. The material ejection is 211u001every directional and introduced larger amounts of micro particulates in the DLC 211u001efilm. The authors have found that the use of a random phase plate to smooth the 211u001elaser intensity profile effectively eliminated this ejection of material with 211u001eadditional advantage of higher coating rate. The spectra in the visible and UV of 211u001ethe plume emission were analyzed to correlate with DLC quality and coating rate. 211u001eThey have characterized the carbon plasma based on emissions from C, C2, C+ and
