This report represents the fourth Semi-Annual Technical Progress Report issued in211u001econnection with the subsidence remediation projects undertaken by Rockaway 211u001eTownship in Morris County, New Jersey. This report provides a summary of the 211u001emajor project work accomplished during this reporting period and contemplated for 211u001ethe subsequent reporting period. This report is issued as part of the project 211u001ereporting provisions set forth in the Cooperators Agreement between the United 211u001eStates Government--Department of Energy, and Rockaway Township. The purpose of 211u001ethe Cooperators Agreement is for the Department of Energy to provide technical 211u001eand financial assistance in a coordinated effort with Rockaway Township to 211u001edevelop and implement a multi-phased plan to remediate ground stability problems 211u001eassociated with abandoned mining activity. Primarily during the 1800's, extensive 211u001eiron ore mining and prospecting was undertaken in Rockaway Township, part of the 211u001eDover District Mining region in Morris County. The abandoned mining activity has 211u001eresulted in public safety hazards associated with ground collapse and surface 211u001esubsidence features evolving in both developed and undeveloped areas within 211u001eRockaway Township. During this reporting period the Engineering Design for 211u001eremediation of the surface safety hazards associated with the White Meadow Mine 211u001ewas completed. Construction Plans and Technical Specifications were completed and 211u001ecompetitive bids were solicited by the Township for completion of the work. The 211u001eelectrical resistivity survey analysis and report was completed for the Green 211u001ePond Mines site at the Township Compost Storage Facility. The geophysical survey 211u001eresults confirmed evidence of abandoned mining activity at the Green Pond Mine 211u001esite which was previously identified. During this reporting period, the time 211u001eframe of the Cooperative Agreement between the Township and the Department of 211u001eEnergy was extended. An additional site of subsidence with in the Township 211u001erelated to abandoned mining activity at Mount Hope Road was selected by Rockaway 211u001eTownship to be considered for remediation and inclusion under the Cooperative 211u001eAgreement.
