摘要

Several Si-Al killed laboratory melts have been produced with normal O.H, sulphur levels, to assess the effects of zirconium, titanium and the combined effect of Zr and Ti on the nature of sulphide inclusions, and subsequent effects on notch ductility.nA zirconium addition of 0. 055% was sufficient to modify the sulphide formation to a non-malleable form giving excellent notch ductility. At some stage between 0. 055% and 0.10% a light grey needle shaped grain boundary zirconium precipitate is formed resulting in stringers when rolled, with adverse effects on notch toughness in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
