摘要

In this study, a method for the derivation of plate element stiffness matrices based on the principle of minimum complementary energy using assumed stress distributions is described. The method was developed ori¬ginally by PIAN (1964) in dealing with problems of plane stress and then extended by SEVERN and TAYLOR (1966) to problems concerning plate bending.nExamples of square plates in bending are investigated. Emphasi6 is placed on solving a series of clamped square plates of various mesh sizes subjected to uniform loading. An idea of the accuracy of each mesh size is obtained by comparison with a known analytical series solution. The finite element solution shows an improvement in structural analysis when the element stiffness matrices satisfy both internal equilibrium and displacement compatibility with adjacent elements.
