The class of nonlinear evolution equations associated with the linear problem Psi x = Lambda A Psi is derived. It turns out that the chiral field equation, the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations, the Heisenberg and Papanicolau spin chain models, the modified Boussinesq equation, and the Wadati-Konno-Ichikawa equations pertain to this class. The Backlund transformations for such a class are used to derive the one-soliton solution in a special case.
