摘要

Specimens of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy were fatigue tested under fretting conditions. Two groups of specimens were tested, one containing shot-peened specimens and the other containing specimens that were shot-peened and coated with the solid lubricant PWA 474. Rotary bending fatigue tests were performed. Under fretting conditions, the fatigue limit for shot-peened specimens was 235 N/sq mm, while the corresponding value for shot-peened and solid lubricant coated specimen was 480 N/sq mm. The fatigue limit for the latter group of specimens approaches that of material unaffected by fretting. It is shown that shot-peening combined with solid lubricant coating drastically improves the fatigue strength of the material under the fretting conditions used in this investigation.
