A procedure for separating nitrocellulose from PBX 9404 and its subsequent analysis for nitrogen content is discussed. Nitrogen analysis of nitrocellulose on a Perkin-Elmer Model 240 elemental analyzer yielded results about 1% absolute from the percentage of nitrogen in the nitrocellulose. Several samples were analyzed in replicate; a correlation between age and nitrogen content can be made. (ERA citation 07:044599)
