摘要

The utility industry has long expressed the need for temperature instrumentation capable of monitoring the hottest spot of a transformer winding in service. The Fluoroptic temperature sensor concept developed by Luxtron Corporation is evaluated. The sensing element consists of an optical fiber with a temperature sensitive tip made of a rare earth phosphor. The excellent dielectric properties of probe materials, and the results of short-time survival studies on measuring probes and accessories in a simulated transformer environment tend to confirm that this technology may be suitable for transformer service. Specific design and material problems which must be resolved before a viable system can be developed are identified in the report. (ERA citation 07:056730)
