The Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program (SEAMAP) has conducted ichthyoplankton surveys in U.S. waters of the Gulf of Mexico since 1982. The surveys determine the distribution and abundance of pelagic eggs, larvae, and juveniles of fishes for the purpose of management, protection, and conservation of critical fishery habitats. The report presents the results of the 1986 survey. A total of 19 cruises were conducted by seven vessels. Four of the cruises conducted in May targeted the pelagic stock of bluefin tuna larvae and eggs. A total of 267 samples were obtained from offshore waters.
