摘要

The case of Western Airlines (WAL) provides an example of an effort by a company and its unions to make fundamental changes in labor-management relations. These efforts, which took place at the level of strategic management decision making, were prompted by the company's need to adapt to a sharply changed set of economic conditions. The case focuses on the workings and staying power of significant changes in labor-management relations at the workplace, in the realm of collective bargaining, and in the area of strategic managerial decision making.
