The Air Pollution Research Advisory Committee (APRAC) of the Coordinating Research Council sponsored a workshop on April 19-21, 1988 in Orange, California to discuss the technical issues related to the widespread use of methanol as an alternate transportation fuel. Workshop sessions were organized to address regulatory issues, demonstration projects and research needs in the areas of atmospheric measurements, vehicle emissions, atmospheric chemistry, and air quality modeling relating to methanol fuel usage. Some 27 technical papers were presented to an audience of over 130 experts from industry, government and academia on various aspects of the methanol fuel use issue. The workshop provided a forum for assessing the current state of knowledge concerning methanol as an alternative fuel, defining critical issues, and identifying needs for future research.
