摘要

The purpose of the project was to identify methods for improving the access to local fishing grounds by Tribal commercial fisherman and the transfer of their catches to the Tribal Fish House for processing. The study concluded that all potential sites would require significant investment in dredging, breakwater construction, shore protection and uplands development to establish a harbor. However, the study did identify Point Grenville as a potential site for a launch ramp for trailerable boats of 18 to 23 feet. Even this option was recognized to have several drawbacks (presence of submerged rocks, frequent fog, and sudden storms) that would be dangerous to boaters unfamiliar with the area. A rail cradle launch system equipped for semi-mechanized handling of catches and supplies is recommended as the preferred design for this facility because it is less expensive to maintain while providing the Tribe a greater ability to control the use of the facility to boaters familiar with the area.
