Environmental and ship performance data were collected in the Bering Sea Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) while aboard the USCGC POLAR SEA in April 1986. The first volume of a three volume set of reports describes the result of environmental and operational studies in the MIZ. These studies include characterization of ice and environmental conditions, studies related to topside icing, and evaluation of cold weather clothing, night vision aids, and operational procedures.
