Agrobased industries interact with the food chain which ranges from agricultural production, processing to distribution and marketing; along with related subunits such as storage, transport, socioeconomic aspects and institutional infrastructure. This paper provides an overall assessment of the development of agro-industry in Africa with emphasis on the food-processing industry. It aims at identifying the sub-sectors and areas in need of cooperation particularly from Africa and international nongovernmental organizations.
