The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued effluent guidelines and limitations for the Metal Molding and Casting Industry in September 1985. The report estimates the economic impact of pollution control costs incurred by plants in the industry in terms of potential plant closures, employment effects, profitability effects, and other measures. A model plant approach is used to assess these impacts on the 800 domestic plants affected by the regulation. The model plant analysis is based on five industry subcategories (ferrous, aluminum, copper, zinc, and magnesium) and reflects different plant sizes and casting processes.
