Fort Irwin Archaeological Project. Research Report Number 18. Rogers Ridge (4-SBr-5250): A Fossil Spring Site of the Lake Mojave and Pinto Periods. Phase 2. Test Excavations and Site Evaluation
Surface collections and excavations in Locus 1 and two artifiact clusters of Locus 2 (the Silver Lake and Embayment clusters) revealed the presence of datable cultural features in each location. A fossil spring deposit, with a man-made well or reservoir dug into it, was discovered and sampled in Locus 1. Spring development appears to have been dated to the end of the Lake Mojave period about 8400 years B.P. (uncorrected). An occupation apparently dating to the same time period is represented by most of the Pinto period occupation (dated to the mid Holocene 5000 B.P., uncorrected) was evidently the main contributor to the cultural deposits buried in the Embayment cluster.
