The study revealed seven cross-cutting themes regarding the approach of State policymakers and national information sources to mental health policy information issues, and specific policy information concerns. These include: (1) time constraints for gathering, assessing and applying information; (2) informal mechanisms for accessing information; (3) focusing on specific issues, resulting in a lack of background and contextual information being brought to the issue; (4) uncertainty regarding availability of national policy information; (5) limited accessibility and usability of information; (6) limited comparability and reliability of information among States; and (7) recognition of differing roles for States and national organizations in providing policy information.
