摘要

The series of reports evaluates available vegetation data and sampling procedures for pre- and postmining vegetation assessments in North Dakota. Their need was recognized by the North Dakota Public Service Commission in 1977, pursuant to the enactment of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-87). The Commission felt that a comprehensive report on the vegetation of western North Dakota in particular and that of the northern Great Plains in general, would be greatly useful in developing appropriate guidelines for pre- and postmining vegetation inventories. In its present form the report is based on the review of literature from studies conducted in North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota, and the neighboring provinces of Canada.
