摘要

A one-day conference was held May 16, 1984, in association with the joint annual meeting of the American Geriatric Society and the American Federation for Aging Research. A summary of the proceedings covers the speakers' presentations in the morning: 'Overview of Iatrogenic Illness;' 'Patient Injuries: Their Cause and Prevention;' 'Diagnostic Procedures: How to Evaluate Their Usefulness and Potential for Harm;' 'Assessing the Effects of Therapeutic Interventions;' and 'Clinical Geriatric Research: Still in Adolescence.' The workshops in the afternoon offered sessions on: 'Constructing a Research Protocol;' 'Alternative Approaches to the Research Question;' and 'Research Priorities of Iatrogenic Diseases.' An Annotated Bibliography covering an extensive survey of the literature on iatrogenic illness was distributed at the conference.
