This report presents data on the use and cost of services of inpatients in short-stay hospitals provided to aged and disabled Medicare enrollees during 1978. Trends data on the use and cost of short-stay hospital services are presented for the aged beginning in 1967 and for the disabled beginning in 1974. The report analyses use of services by demographic characteristics of the patients, characteristics of the hospitals and by the occurrence of surgery or death during hospitalization for aged and disabled enrollees.
