摘要

This bibliography completes the first step of a project to examine the scope and character of research on an important but often neglected natural resource (plant life), as it interacts with environments that dominate most human experience but whose ecology is not well understood (urban and transitional areas), as it is carried out in a unique but underutilized form of scholarly work (graduate theses and dissertations). The purpose of compiling such an analytic bibliography is to increase understanding of vegetation as a vital resource in intensively used environments. The cumulative record of graduate research is fully documented in an index of 686 citations and abstracts. Subject categories are extensively cross-indexed and sources from which citations and author's abstracts have been collected, and criteria for their selection, are fully documented.
