摘要

This volume presents a research design for a class II cultural resources survey to be carried out as part of the Bureau of Reclamation Upper Gila Water Supply Study for the Central Arizona Project. The study includes five projects along the upper Gila River in the vicinity of Cliff, New Mexico and one project along the lower San Francisco River northeast of Clifton, Arizona. The research design outlines a multistage sample survey effort which will result in inventory of 15% of the total land area encompassed by the six projects, or about 11,400 acres (4,615 ha). Key elements of the research design include a statement of cultural evolutionary and cultural ecological approaches which guide overall project objectives, and a review of previous cultural-historical research.
