摘要

The mutual interaction between cumulus convection and its larger scale environment is one of the unsolved fundamental problems in meteorology. In the last two decades, many different cumulus parameterization schemes have been designed for various numerical models. Yet, so far no single scheme is shown to be general enough to be applied in all weather situations. The major difficulty associated with cumulus parameterization is the 'closure relationship' between the energy release and the vertical transfer of energy in cumulus convection and the large-scale environmental parameters. To increase the authors knowledge of this important topic was the main objective of two large field programs: GATE and SESAME. The purpose of this report is to diagnose the effects of organized mid-latitude convection on its environment in a case observed in SESAME-79.
